On October 16, “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO organized a round-table discussion on the topic of “LGBT issues in Armenia and suggestion for their solution” which aimed at raising the awareness on LGBT issues and contribute to the development of mechanisms for their protection and integration into society.
Representatives of local and international organizations, independent journalists and young people attended the discussion.
The president of “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO Sergey Gabrielyan opened the discussion. In his opening remarks NGO President mentioned that the round table-discussion is organized in the scope of “Capacity building and empowerment of human rights defenders emerging leaders for LGBT rights protection in Armenia” project funded by the Embassy of Germany in Armenia. Then gave a detailed presentation of the organization’s large spectrum of past and future activities on especially LGBT issues and particularly focused on the purpose and outcomes of the discussion.
The guest speakers of the meeting were:

- Artur Sakunts – Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office,
- Mamikon Hovsepyan – “Public Information and Need of Knowledge” NGO,
- Hovhannes Madoyan – “Real World, Real People” NGO,
- Stepan Danielyan – “Partnership for Democracy” NGO,
- Anna Melikyan – “Civil Society Institute” NGO.
The guest speakers discussed the crucial expressions of discrimination towards LGBT people and violations of rights in a number of spheres, such as healthcare, education, social life, etc.
The attendees had an opportunity to voice their concerns about the intolerant attitude of the public towards LGBT people in Armenia and suggest/discuss effective mechanisms for solving the raised issues.
